Window Box is a lifestyle editorial illustration created for an article exploring the joys of urban gardening and the quiet intimacy of tending to window boxes within city spaces. The piece reflects on small acts of care, cultivation, and connection to nature amidst dense urban environments.
Created at Maryland Institute College of Art during my Master’s in Illustration, the project was art directed by Rebecca Bradley.
Window Box
The illustration was approached as a form of escape — a lush, self-made world nurtured within a limited urban space that still feels abundant and expansive. Playing with scale, I placed a woman resting within the centre of a window box, surrounded by dense plants and succulents, reading a book titled The Joys of Gardening. The composition reflects the intimacy, care, and softness that urban gardening can create within everyday city life.
